Welcome back to the virtual unveiling of our 4 new murals. We invite you to come and visit our new murals (3 of them are outside and can be viewed at any time). Art is of great importance to our community and this summer we have been able to create captivating murals at our Para Los Niños office. Our second virtual unveil is by South Seattle-based Mixed Media Artist and Teaching Artist Amaranta Sandys.
About the Mural and Artist:
Amaranta Sandys was born and raised in Mexico City. In 2000 she returned back to Seattle after finishing her degree in Ceramics and Folk Mexican Art at Instituto Nacional de Bellas (INBA). In 2013, through Latino Ventures Business, she launched with great success ArtMaranth Mobile School.
Her art programs now are offered virtually at libraries, schools, and community centers serving underrepresented youth, young mothers, and families around King County. Over the last 17 years, she has ventured into new artistic territories: curating art exhibitions, mentoring murals with youth, poster commission, public art, volunteering, and advocating for accessible Arts Education.
Her artwork has been inspired by social change, nature, cycles, and ancestral rituals. “My illustrations depict personal visual narratives through bright colors, bold lines & textures.” She portrayed people’s struggles and awareness from indigenous rights, racial social justice, equity, diversity, and pure joy. Women are connected to the mind and heart. Through her artistic practice, she tries to find balance in creative spaces, urban life, and family time. She uses acrylics, clay, vintage maps, watercolor pencils, and found objects

Bienvenido de nuevo a la presentación virtual de nuestros 4 nuevos murales. ¡Tenemos nuevos murales! Ven a visitarlos a cualquier hora del día (3 de ellos se encuentran a fuera). El arte es de gran importancia para nuestra comunidad y este verano hemos podido crear bellísimas obras en nuestra oficina de Para Los Niños. Nuestra segunda presentación virtual es de la artista de medios mixtos y artista docente Amaranta Sandys, del sur de Seattle.

Amaranta Sandys nació y creció en la Ciudad de México. En el año 2000 regresó a Seattle después de terminar su licenciatura en Cerámica y Arte Popular Mexicano, en el Instituto Nacional de Bellas (INBA). En el año 2013, a través de Latino Ventures Business, lanzó con gran éxito ArtMaranth Mobile School.
Sus programas de arte ahora se ofrecen virtualmente en bibliotecas, escuelas y centros comunitarios que sirven a jóvenes que tradicionalmente no son representados adecuadamente, madres jóvenes y familias en todo el condado de King. Durante los últimos 17 años, se ha aventurado en nuevos territorios artísticos: curadora de exposiciones de arte, tutoría de murales con jóvenes, realiza carteles, arte público, voluntariado y defensa de la educación artística accesible.
Su obra de arte se ha inspirado en el cambio social, la naturaleza, los ciclos y los rituales ancestrales. “Mis ilustraciones representan narrativas visuales personales a través de colores brillantes, líneas y texturas llamativas. Ella retrató las luchas y la conciencia de las personas desde los derechos indígenas, la justicia social racial, la equidad, la diversidad y la alegría pura. Las mujeres están conectadas con la mente y el corazón.” A través de su práctica artística, intenta encontrar el equilibrio en los espacios creativos, la vida urbana y el tiempo en familia. Utiliza acrílicos, arcilla, mapas antiguos, lápices acuarelables y objetos encontrados.
